Sand, sand and sports at Centara?s Mauritius resort

(Bangkok, Thailand, 31th July 2013 ) Mauritius, with its rich cultural mix, its colourful history and its golden beaches, is now regarded as one of the world's top luxury tourism destinations.

The island, set in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometres from the east coast of Africa, was named the World?s Leading Island Destination in the World Travel Awards in 2011 and has one of the highest rates of returning tourism visitors in the world.

Centara Hotels & Resorts opened its first Mauritius property earlier in 2013, with Centara Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa Mauritius set on the beach on the eastern side of the island.

Making full use of the soft sand and the calm sea, and with its own lagoon, the resort offers a whole range of complimentary sporting activities, including beach volleyball, bike tours, snorkelling, kayaking, a glass-bottom boat, pedalos, and scuba diving initiation in the pool.

The beach, located at the village of Poste Lafayette in the island?s Flacq district, has plenty to attract those who enjoy strolling and trekking.

To the south of the resort are shallow waters and small islands, with outcrops of mangrove trees, while to the north are long black rock landscapes with dramatic breakers.

Centara Poste Lafayette Resort is flanked by a green mountain to one side, and is on the coast road, making connections with the island?s other attractions, and the airport, quick and easy.

The resort has 100 rooms, their d?cor blending colours with fabrics that mirror the sun-filled landscapes and azure waters, and each featuring either a balcony or terrace.

There is a large free-form swimming pool and children?s pool overlooking the ocean, and a Spa Cenvaree that offers a range of therapeutic treatments including Ayurvedic applications and holistic experiences. Younger guests are well taken care of with a supervised Kids Club, the Jules Verne themed Camp Safari for children aged three to 11, and the E-Zone for those in their teens.

Centara Hotels & Resorts is Thailand?s leading operator of hotels, with 41 deluxe and first-class properties covering all the major tourist destinations in the Kingdom. A further 17 resorts in the Maldives, Vietnam, Shanghai, Bali Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius Indian Ocean, brings the present total to 58 properties. Brands and properties within Centara ensure that specific categories such as couples, families, individuals, and meetings and incentives groups will all find a hotel or resort that is appropriate to their needs. Centara operates 27 branches of Spa Cenvaree, one of Thailand?s most luxurious and innovative spa brands, together with its newly launched value brand Cense by Spa Cenvaree, which provides core spa services for busy travellers. The company?s Kids? Club is available at all the family-friendly resorts to ensure that the youngsters and teens are taken care of. Centara Hotels & Resorts also operates two state-of-the-art convention centres in Bangkok, and two in northeastern Thailand, one being located in Udon Thani and the other in Khon Kaen. The latest Centara brand is named COSI Hotels, an economy brand designed for travellers who predominantly make their bookings via the internet and who want comfort and convenience at the most friendly prices available, which is under development with the first property due to open in 2015.

"Having cancer has been an amazing yet horrible journey," she said. "Yet every journey has an end."

Talia passed away on July 16, at 11:22 a.m, after battling neuroblastoma.

Now her father, Marc Winthrop, has found volunteer organization Band of Parents, which helps to fund research for new therapies for neuroblastoma. "At that moment, our founding members realized they could make a difference and a short time later, about 100 families of children in treatment for neuroblastoma came together to form The Band of Parents," says the organization's website.

Winthrop says that one of his own pet projects will be getting world-class care for all children, regardless of their parents' insurance statuses or income.

Neuroblastoma?is a childhood cancer that develops from immature nerve cells. The cancer cells mutate and multiply out of control. The initial genetic mutation that causes neuroblastoma is still unclear at the moment.

Winthrop has used his tragedy and turned it into a positive motive to help find a cure for neuroblastoma. He wants for children everywhere to be able to get the best care, regardless of their income status or regardless of insurance.

He also plans to advocate for more research in order to understand and treat this deadly disease; he believe that the only way to do this is with more funds. "The biggest thing I've done is pulled together parent groups and made very significant grants to Memorial Sloane-Kettering for Neuroblastoma," he told the?Daily News.

"Talia left her handprionts and footprings on the world," said her sister Mattia in a YouTube video after Talia had passed away.
