NEW YORK (AP) ? The West Coast magazine editors who came up with the idea for the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations say they hope the movement will lead to big cultural changes in the U.S. and around the globe.
The first call for a mass demonstration on Wall Street came was put out in July by the staff at Adbusters, a magazine based in Vancouver, Canada, that criticizes consumer culture and says wealthy corporations have too much influence.
The magazine's co-founder, Kalle Lasn, and editor, Micah White, of Berkeley, California, began promoting the idea of the protest in July after being inspired by demonstrations against high unemployment in Spain, as well as the popular uprising in Egypt.
Neither man has actually been to the New York demonstration, now in its fourth week.
