A Few Books for the Nature/Outdoor ... - Things Biological

There is always an abundance of great books regarding nature and nature photography. Some of my favorites, as well as a few new potential favorites, are briefly described below.

The Smaller Majority

Of all of Piotr Naskreki?s books, this book remains my personal favorite. I think? it should be in the library of anyone who enjoys arthropods or macrophotography. I really enjoy looking through this book on a regular basis. Excellent writing throughout!

Field Notes on Science & Nature

I read this book in June and reviewed it at that time. It?s an extraordinarily enjoyable journey into the widely divergent ways that field biologists chronicle and catalogue their work and their observations.

A World in One Cubic Foot

This book just came out a week ago and was recently reviewed on NPR. Our local Barnes and Noble is not planning to order copies, so this one goes on my list!

Arachnids

Like Piotr Naskreki?s The Smaller Majority, this book has great photographs, is well written, and is taxonomically-based. If you are more macro photography-focused, buy Naskreki?s book. If you?re more taxonomically-focused, buy this one.? Better yet, buy both!

Spiders: Learning to Love Them

This book is an exceptional introduction to spiders. It?s an excellent read for both lay and professional audiences. ?You can find my review of this book at http://thingsbiological.wordpress.com/2011/09/29/book-review-spiders-learning-to-love-them/.

Biology of Spiders

Aimed at a professional audience, this reference is well written with exceptional detail. Avid spider hobbyists will find this work takes over where The Tarantula Keeper?s Guide leaves off.

Digital Outdoor Photography- 101 Tips

I?ve been unable to get my hands on a copy of this book, but based on Adrian Thysse?s review of this book , this is the second book that goes on my list this year.

Please feel free to share any book titles that you think I should add to this list. Thanks!
