Well, I can't speak for anyone else but I personally set the limits so that people will put some thought into their posts. So many times I've seen people (and I've experienced it on both sides as well) write a really nice post with 3-5 paragraphs and then they'll get a reply with only a few sentences. It kind of feels like a slap in the face to the first poster. It's not like anyone is asking them to match the other person's post because I agree with you that everyone writes differently and are on different levels. However, if you put thought into a post, no matter how short it turns out to be it will be longer then a couple sentences and it wont come off as lazy.
The limits in my roleplays aren't heavily enforced. If someone posts a little less or a little more (I do have a max. I really hate when people try to write novels for others to have to reply too) then its fine. Maybe that character had more to say or react to or maybe that person was able to get the point across in a creative way without quite making it to the minimum.
But, yeah, it's just there to stop people from being lazy, going novel crazy, and to just keep everyone around the same level. Hope that makes sense. I'm not trying to speak for everyone but these are my reasons anyway.
Kids these days should just Quit life and become Zombies.
