High school baseball: Mount Carmel rolls past Bishop McNamara

Mount Carmel works through its pregame drills with a military-like precision.

Once the game starts, it turns that precise attack on the opponent.

The Caravan (14-0, 4-0 Chicago Catholic League) dismantled host Bishop McNamara 9-1 Saturday morning, regularly demonstrating the prowess that has them ranked second in both Chicagoland baseball polls and ranked nationally by several ranking bodies.

"We made it through alive," Bishop McNamara coach Kurt Quick said. "I'm not sure the score is reflective of the game. They only had three earned runs. We make a couple of plays we should have and we might have been right in it."

Mount Carmel went on the attack from the get-go. The Caravan sent 10 men to the plate in the first inning and were helped along by three Fightin' Irish errors. When the dust cleared, Mount Carmel held a 5-0 advantage.

Conversely, Bishop McNamara had no such luck against Mount Carmel's solid right-hander Tyler Laurisch.
